Estimator experienced in construction (building services) and refurbishment projects required.

Location: Portsmouth.

Salary: Upto 65k pa. (40-hour week).

Our client is a respected, professional construction and facilities management company delivering high-quality construction, refurbishment, building maintenance and FM services across the South of England. With a growing Building Projects division, we’re proud to support clients in the education, care, health, and housing sectors, delivering projects ranging from £100k to £5m.
 
 
The Role

As an Estimator, you will take ownership of the pricing process across a variety of projects, working closely with the Estimating team and Directors. You’ll enjoy a significant degree of autonomy while contributing to a collaborative and high-performing environment.
 
Key Responsibilities

  • Evaluate incoming tender enquiries, identifying project risks, opportunities, and contract requirements.
  • Produce detailed bills of quantities (BoQs) and schedules of work from drawings, specifications, and site visits.
  • Manage enquiries and BoQs through our estimating software (ConQuest).
  • Accurately price works, obtaining competitive quotes from suppliers and subcontractors.
  • Prepare and present tender reports for internal adjudication.
  • Collaborate with the bid team to ensure timely, high-quality tender submissions.
  • Conduct post-tender negotiations and support value engineering efforts.
  • Compile thorough handover packs for the operational and commercial teams.
  • Assist the Business Development team with incoming opportunities.

Experience Required

  • Solid technical understanding of general construction methods.
  • Proven experience in a main contractor environment preparing competitive quotes (£100k–£5m).
  • Strong familiarity with Design & Build tenders and JCT contract frameworks.
  • Demonstrated attention to detail, commercial awareness, and risk analysis.
  • Proficient in estimating software (preferably ConQuest) and MS Office.

Qualifications

  • HNC, HND, or Degree in a construction-related discipline (desirable).
  • Membership of professional bodies such as MCIOB or MRICS (desirable).
