Carpenter – Portsmouth City Council
 
Location: Portsmouth

Hours: 40 per week

Salary: £35,092.51

Reporting to: Supervisor
 
We’re looking for a skilled and reliable Carpenter to join our responsive maintenance team. You’ll carry out a range of carpentry repairs across Portsmouth City Council properties – from homes and schools to museums and offices.
What you’ll be doing:

• General carpentry repairs including doors, kitchen installs, tiling, and more
• Working on both occupied and empty properties
• Occasionally supporting other maintenance contracts
• Ensuring high-quality work, customer care, and safety at all times
• Accurately diagnosing and completing repairs, often in a single visit

What we’re looking for:

• NVQ Level 2–3 in Carpentry (or equivalent)
• 2–5 years’ experience in social housing or building maintenance
• Good problem-solving skills and attention to detail
• Positive attitude and team spirit
• Comfortable using PDAs and speaking with residents
• A clean UK driving licence
