Maintenance Electrician – Portsmouth City Council
Location & Hours
- Based across Portsmouth
- Full‑time, 40 hrs per week (flexible start/end times)
Pay & Perks
- £41,000 salary

The Job
You’ll handle day‑to‑day and void repairs for Portsmouth City Council’s housing and corporate buildings — everything from flats and schools to museums. Expect plenty of electrical testing, fault‑finding, rewires, heating‑system wiring and the odd bit of non‑licensed asbestos work (full training provided). We work to a “right fix, first time” approach, so you’ll own each job, keep tenants in the loop and make sure the paperwork’s clean.
What You’ll Bring
- NVQ 3 (or equivalent) in Electrical Installation
- 18th Edition wiring regs
- 2391 testing & inspection (nice to have)
- 2‑5 years in social‑housing or building‑maintenance work
- A tidy van, the right tools and a knack for great customer service
- Positive, safety‑first attitude and solid fault‑finding skills
Day‑to‑Day
- Diagnose and complete electrical repairs in occupied and empty homes
- Carry out EICRs and remedial works
- Keep detailed job notes on your PDA
- Look after your van stock and leave every property spotless
- Work as part of a tight‑knit repairs team, sharing best practice
