Mechanical Engineer – Surveillance Systems
 
UK Wide – Reporting base in Whiteley, Hampshire
£63,000 – £83,000 depending on experience
 
-Flexible/home working where project requirements allow
 
SLR Recruitment is looking for a Mechanical Engineer to join a specialist Surveillance team supporting critical radar and surveillance systems within a highly regulated, safety-critical environment.
 
This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced engineer with a background in aviation, defence, rail, navy, RAF or other complex operational environments.
 
The role focuses on supporting the mechanical and electro-mechanical elements of surveillance systems including antenna structures, drive and rotation mechanisms, cooling systems and associated infrastructure.
 
The Role
 
You’ll support the ongoing delivery, maintenance and performance of surveillance systems, working across multiple projects to provide technical expertise, fault investigation and engineering support while ensuring operational reliability and safety standards are maintained.
 
Key Responsibilities
 
– Support delivery of surveillance engineering projects
– Produce technical specifications, engineering documentation and test reports
– Carry out fault finding, investigations and mechanical system assessments
– Support installation, commissioning and system modifications
– Coordinate stakeholders, contractors and project activities
– Support change activities and ensure engineering deliverables are completed to plan
– Review and develop maintenance and operating procedures
– Support acceptance testing and ongoing system improvements
 
What We’re Looking For
 
– Experience within a safety-critical or regulated engineering environment
– Mechanical engineering experience supporting complex systems and assets
– Experience with rotating machinery, structures and electro-mechanical systems
– Experience with fault finding, lifecycle management and engineering modifications
– Knowledge of CDM-managed projects and mechanical safety requirements
– Experience of work at height
– Climbing experience and relevant certifications would be highly advantageous
– Backgrounds considered include aviation, defence, rail, navy, RAF and related sectors
 
Travel across the UK will be expected to support projects and operational requirements, with travel to Whiteley as needed depending on project demands and location.
