How hard is it to find work after the military?
Before you begin the transition process of resettlement into civilian life, services leavers need to know one important thing; planning ahead. Before beginning the career transition outside of the armed forces, you need to begin preparing. Having an idea of what you’re wanting to do, and how you plan on doing it will make the journey of finding a new career a lot easier. This will allow you to have something to look forward to in terms of new horizons and future in civilian life. If you don’t plan, is it still hard to find work after the military?
The hardest part is transitioning from military service
A lot of people who have been in the military for a long time often find it difficult to transition into civilian life which can make it a very emotional time. They often feel like they are not good enough or that they don’t have what it takes to succeed in the civilian world. So why is this such a common occurrence for veterans? This can be because of the unique skillsets that military members develop.
A lot of veterans tend to skip out on getting a higher education (such as a university), which is more uncommon for the average civilian. The level of education however doesn’t mean that a veteran isn’t worthy or deserving of a job compared to civilians. There are plenty of pros that a veteran has compared to a civilian such as security clearance, experience in trades and transferrable skills.
How can I manage my reintegration into society after the military?
Reintegration is a process of adjusting to life outside the military. Some veterans can find it difficult because they are leaving their old life behind and starting a new one. It is important that all veterans find ways to reintegrate into society after the military so how can reintegration be managed properly?
While it can take some time to reintegrate, especially when trying to find a promising career, recognise it will take time. Keep yourself active and focussed through hunting for relevant jobs, attending community events, talking with a recruiter who specialises in veterans, and looking into job networking.
How do veterans get back on the civilian job market?
Veterans are often faced with a difficult dilemma when they return to civilian life. They have the skills and experience to get a job, but the high unemployment rate makes it difficult for them to find work. The good news is that there are several programs that help in getting back on the civilian job market. These programs can include things like job fairs, recruitment, CV workshops, and interview coaching.
Thanks to the help of these programs, veterans can not only find jobs in their field of expertise but also have better chances of finding a permanent position and securing a salary that is commensurate with their skillset. Just simply submit your CV to a specialist marine recruitment agency and they’ll help match you up with the best positions around.
