What’s ahead for the SLR team in 2023

It has been a busy and incredible year for SLR Marine Recruit. Not only have we expanded our team, but we also took occupancy of some office space in the heart of Southsea during the autumn. This was an important step in the progress and development of the team as it allows us to interact and grow as a business. Not only that, but our new premises in Southsea also enable us to welcome candidates, clients, and partners for face-to-face meetings. So, what have we got planned for 2023?

Exhibition in January

We are kicking things off at the end of January by taking a place as one of the exhibitors at Shaping Portsmouth on the 27th. We talked in November about how we had become a patron of Shaping Portsmouth. This was a move that forms part of our continued drive to be a part of conversations and networking that shape the community. On the 27th of January, the Shaping Portsmouth conference will return to the Portsmouth Guildhall For the 11th year. Sponsored by 53 local businesses including SLR, the focus of this event, which carries the theme of transforming Portsmouth together, will be looking at the past present and future of our city what is changing and how we can all play a part. Shaping Portsmouth provides vital support to young businesses and start-ups, people in work looking to train or upscale as well as the young people of our city. The event itself will provide an opportunity for networking, listening to valuable speakers as well as participating in our shared goals for the city in 2023.

Supporting apprenticeships in the city

We will also be supporting the apprenticeship bus tour to mark national apprenticeships week from the 6th to the 12th of February 2023. The tour takes apprentices from businesses based in Portsmouth into schools so that pupils can meet them, ask questions, and gain some real insight into the potential opportunities available as an apprentice. SLR is proud to support this venture and will be working alongside the council as part of the program by providing roles as industrial cleaners.

Marine exhibition in June

The team will be present at Seawork in June in Southampton. This exhibition for commercial marine organisations is one of the highlights of the year for the south coast shipping industry. There are multiple exhibits and outdoor demonstrations as well as a chance for like-minded professionals in the shipping sector to meet and build a network with those who have common areas of business interests.

In addition to the exhibitions and events we will be attending, we will continue to strengthen our ties to UK shipyards. With the government announcing a huge budget of £4bn for the national shipbuilding strategy and news last month of BAE Systems winning contracts for type 26 frigates, we know that this sector will continue to thrive and grow.

The team at SLR are looking forward to a busy 2023 and placing more of our skilled candidates into key roles in a thriving sector. Happy new year!
